Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Stands Up For AIDS Research

Not only is she France’s First Lady, but Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is also a vehement fighter in the fight against AIDS, due in part to her brother Virginio Bruni-Tedeschi’s death two years ago.

The model-turned-singer was spotted at a press conference held at the Hotel Marigny in Paris, France earlier today. She chose today as the launch of her new mission because it is World AIDS Day.

Carla is the first ambassador to the Geneva-based Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and she told press that she’ll use her notoriety to bring attention to this very important initiative. “I can put all of the media coverage directed toward me to the service of a useful cause.”

She continued, “Because of my brother, of course I am very sensitive to the issue of AIDS. This is a pandemic. We tend to forget, we are used to it. But look at the figures. It’s staggering.”
